As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve had the pleasure of testing out the Sunday Riley skincare line for the past couple of weeks.  Like most guys who use whatever happens to be in the locker room shower or in bae’s stash in the bathroom, I was fairly clueless on how to use them.  Cleansers, day oils, night oils, water creams, treatments…  It was a lot to take in for someone who usually just looks for “Can be used on face and body” on a label.  So for all the guy’s guys out there who know they need some help on the skincare front but have no clue where to even begin, I’m here to help a brotha out.  Unlike girls who do their skincare regimen twice a day to get their faces ready for makeup and to take off their makeup at the end of the day, we guys have different needs like clearing up our skin or minimizing razor burn or not leaving a greasy slick all over our new sheets.  If those are your issues, let me break it down for you so you can avoid them… First, you need to wash your face with something that’s actually created for face skin, not body skin.  I use Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser whenever I shower to remove grime, sweat and oiliness that has accumulated after a day of shooting in sweltering heat, working out or running around for meetings.  I also use it before I shave to get rid of any bacteria that can cause razor bumps post-shave.  Because the two key ingredients are French green clay and Morrocan rhassoul clay, it’s more deep-cleaning than your average face wash but doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight and dry.  Second, if you have sensitive skin or breakouts, you need to apply a toner or moisturizer that soothes and calms your skin while giving it enough moisture so it doesn’t have to produce its own oils for moisture.  (Because your body produces more oils when it is stripped of moisture, washing your face over and over actually causes you to break out even more.)  On days when I shave, I use Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner after I dry my face post-shaving to soothe my skin and help prevent any redness and razor burns.  On days I don’t shave, I dry my face after my shower and apply Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream.  If you spend a lot of time on airplanes or in buildings with heat or air conditioning or live in a dry climate, this product is great.  Most guys don’t like putting products on their face because we don’t like that feeling of having products on our face, right?  This one soaks in quickly so you don’t even notice it and has the added benefit of making you look refreshed but not shiny.  It also works over time to reduce the appearance of scars from breakouts and freckles from sun exposure (for more serious acne, check out U.F.O Ultra-Clarifying Face Oil).  All in all, it’s not a whole lot of work to get your skin under control.  Compared to, say, those six-pack abs you’ve been dreaming of for years.

Sunday Riley’s Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner and Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream are available at your local Sephora or online at
