At least for a while until the Spring comes, Fall is the last chance for Jazz, my convertible that I store in Colorado. Unlike when I lived in LA, the Winter months in Colorado mean the convertible top stays up, and I’ll be driving about half-speed to avoid icy patches and snow banks. There’s something about driving in a convertible to me that always makes me feel and dress a like I’m driving thru the Italian Alps en route to my palazzo. Driving gloves, big sunglasses, turtleneck, dress shoes… All very Michael Caine in “The Italian Job.” I came across this camel wool topcoat at my local Express store, and knew immediately that it would be perfect for one of my favorite Fall activities which is long drives up in the mountains of Colorado. The classic color and single-breasted style make this topcoat incredibly versatile, and I know I’ll be wearing it throughout the Fall over suits and casual outfits alike. It’s also warm enough so that I can keep the top down on my car and cut with enough room in the shoulders so that it doesn’t interfere with my driving. I paired it with two other great pieces from the Express, a classic black, ultra-comfortable, wool-blend turtleneck and a pair of gorgeous brown ombré monk straps. The whole look is kind of Dad Style (which, as everyone knows, is the hottest trend for Fall) but only if your Dad is straight-up awesome, dresses like an Old School Playboy, and says things like, “It’s a very difficult job and the only way to get through it is we all work together as a team. And that means you do everything I say” (points for style, even if he’s a little autocratic) or “You’re only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!” (congratulations, you won the Parent Lottery!).
