Happy End of July everybody!  I’ve been spending a lot of time lately between New York, LA and Denver, three cities that couldn’t be more different when it comes to fashion and style.  While I often reach for clothes that tend to rock the vibe of the city I’m traveling to, lately I’ve just wanted to pack lightly (the checked and overhead bag fees on the airlines are a killer!) and to find that one perfect grey suit that is never out of place in any location. The suits I favor are slim-fitting and tapered in the leg,  hemmed a little shorter to show some socks, and I always give it a twist so it doesn’t end up looking too stodgy or like I’m Playing Grownup.  It should also look good as separates, since I want the jacket to look great when it’s paired with skinny jeans or even shorts.  The pants need to still look good when I opt for a long t-shirt or the statement coats I’ve been obsessed with lately.  This grey suit, from Combatant Gentlemen’s new Tailored Fit collection, hits all those points.  The lightweight wool fabric, produced by Vitale Barberis Canonic (the renowned mill crafting some of the world’s finest Italian wool fabrics since 1633), has a natural softness and that matte sheen we all associate with luxury suits.  It’s a slim fit, yet offers more room in the shoulders and chest, so you get that awesome V-shape silhouette. For this shoot at Union Station in Denver, I paired it with a black wool overcoat, oversized sunglasses and white sneakers to give it a Young James Bond Gets On a Train To Italy look.  That’s how I always imagine myself when I try on a suit.  I look for all the details that made his style classic yet modern.  Does the fabric look rich or flat?  Does the fit make me look better or worse?  Does it bulge in strange places, a key identifier that screams, “My mom bought this off the rack since I hate going shopping for suits”?  And by far the most important point…  When I walk into a meeting or a bar or an airport, this suit needs to say, “I am a man to be reckoned with.”  Cue the martini and theme song…
